Building Access
In response to growing needs for efficiency, consistency, and enhanced security, the University is updating its building access schedules beginning Summer 2025. Currently, each building follows its own lock/unlock routine, which changes every semester based on individualized outreach. Moving forward, schedules will be standardized by building type—academic, administrative, student spaces , etc.—with clear timeframes and designated after-hours swipe access. This shift ensures easier auditing of building usage and supports a safer campus environment by clearly defining when buildings are open and who has access after-hours. Importantly, Faculty, Staff, and Students will automatically receive 24x7 swipe access to most spaces, preserving flexibility while enhancing security.

Submitting an Exception Request
Exceptions should be submitted using the Dynamic Form for A) management of interior doors, B) access that doesn’t fall within the automatic parameters described above. Faculty, Staff, and Students will have 24x7 swipe access to the exterior doors of most buildings based on their affiliation with the University. Examples of exceptions include:
- Students needing access to the animal lab to feed animals during the semester.
- Students of classes who need access to specific locked labs or classrooms (those that repeat will become automatic over time so will not need exception requests forever).
- Staff or Faculty who are part of a special project that requires them to access a different building than their “home” building assignment in Workday.
Please note that you cannot request access for yourself and that students should not submit access requests. Additionally, requests may take up to three business days, once approved, to take effect, so please plan accordingly.
